China Built More Skyscrapers in 2016 Than Rest of World Combined

The world saw 128 new skyscrapers being completed in 2016, an increase from 114 in 2015. Of those new skyscrapers, a mind-blowing 84 came from China — up from 68 the year before. That was more than any other country on the list combined.
The list revealed that the city of Shenzhen also completed more skyscrapers last year than the United States and Australia put together.
Eleven skyscrapers were added to the city’s skyline in 2016, including the 304 meter tall Shenzhen CFC Changfu Centre, which is the 92nd tallest building in the world with 68 floors.
The US and Australia, meanwhile, completed seven and two skyscrapers, respectively.
The tally was published in the Chicago-based Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat year in review, with buildings over 200 meters tall being counted as skyscrapers.

Combining the height of all 11 completed Shenzhen skyscrapers amounts to 2,607 meters of glass and steel, or more than three times the height of the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world.
Four of the top five cities with the most new skyscrapers are located in mainland China.
It’s nine years running that China has taken the crown of most completed, though the pace is likely to slow as demand for office space dips, a Quartz.com report recently pointed out.
